Social Shadows is a project developed for Hasle Library near Aarhus, Denmark. The focus for this project was to engage kids and teenagers, most of them with an immigrant background, in the library and make the library a good place to hang out, have fun and meet other young people. Through a participatory design process, with a heavy focus on experience prototyping and bodystorming, we decided to go with the Social Shadows idea. The final installation was installed at Hasle Library for nearly two weeks as a pilot project, and received so great feedback from both the staff and the teenagers that they asked to keep the installation. Social Shadows was also featured at ‘Forskningens Døgn’ 2010 at Aarhus University (a showcase day to display some of the research conducted at the university).
